I’ve been crocheting since 2010 and knitting since 2014. From the very beginning, I noticed that everyone approaches patterns differently. Some people stick to written instructions, while others prefer visual charts. As I got more into stitching, I realized how scarce crochet charts were, especially compared to knitting charts.
While working for a knit and crochet designer, I was asked to take on pattern layout tasks using Adobe InDesign. This was something I hadn’t done before, but was excited to learn. I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed it. Over time, my role grew to include creating schematics in Adobe Illustrator, working closely with tech editors, and eventually making knitting and crochet charts using industry-standard software. Crochet charts were definitely trickier, but remembering how much I struggled to find crochet charts for my own stitching, I was determined to figure it out.
What started as a few extra tasks quickly became my favorite part of the job - turning patterns into clear, professional layouts with helpful charts and schematics. When that job ended, I had two choices: find something new that might not include the stuff I loved, or keep doing this work for other designers. I chose to keep doing what I love.
Now, I work independently with designers to bring their patterns to life with custom charts, schematics, and layout help so they can focus on designing, and stitchers get patterns that are easy to follow.
